A one day seminar under the logo HEIGHT was organized by the Department of Humanities, CIIT Abbottabad during Techno Moot 2012 on 7 May 2012.Topics for the seminar were “Problems and Prospects of National Integration in Pakistan” and “US policy towards Pak Nukes & its Implications”.Prof. Dr. Amjad Farid Hasnu, Dean Faculty of Business Administration, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, chaired the session. Faculty and students of CIIT Abbotabad as well as a large number of distinguished guests and students from different institutions attended the seminar and took great interest.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Col. Retd. Ikram Ullah Khan, Head of Humanities Department welcomed the guests and thanked them for sparing their precious time for the seminar. Two renowned scholars, Prof. Dr. Rifaat Hussain, National Defence University, Islamabad and Dr. Maria Sultan, Director General South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) enlightened the audience with their scholarly discourse. Speaking on the topic, “Problems & Prospects of National Integration in Pakistan”, Dr. Rifaat Hussain deliberated on the topic in detail and highlighted the problems of national integration in the country.He emphasized that Pakistan is passing through a very critical stage and there has never been such dire need of national integration as it is today. He urged the audience to make a collective effort to ensure national harmony by educating the general public about unity and brotherhood, and how ethnic and regional differences are eating into the vitals of our society. At the end of his scholarly discourse, he suggested certain important measures to be taken to counter the problems posing threat to national integration.
Speaking on “US policy towards Pak Nukes & its Implications” Dr. Maria Sultan dilated upon the issue in detail and traced the chequered history of Pak US relations. She explained in detail the frequent US policy changes in relation to Pakistan’s nuclear program. She also highlighted the rift in Pak US relations after 9/11.
Later, there was question-answer session in which audience were given a chance to interact with the speakers and ask questions. It made the session interactive where the audience participated in the discussion enthusiastically.
In the end, Prof. Dr. Amjad Farid Hasnu, Dean Faculty of Business Administration, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, presented shields to the distinguished speakers.
