Overview
Chemistry is a fundamental discipline of natural science as it plays a vital role in existence of human beings by touching every aspect of day-to-day life. Learning Chemistry helps one to not only understand that Chemistry is beyond the study of matter and chemical reactions but its a central science in connecting other disciplines as for example, physics, mathematics, biological, environmental and earth sciences. Whether its related to supply or production of food, improved health and sanitation facilities, environmental pollution control, production of synthetic materials for comfortable life, or paint, pigments and other industries, chemists contribute towards society by solving problems related to human existence.
Keeping in view the importance of Chemistry as mentioned above, the main focus of the Department of Chemistry, after its establishment in 2008 at CUI Abbottabad Campus, is to be recognized as a well-known teaching as well as high quality research hub. The department has 22 full time PhD faculty members having national and international repute. Students are provided opportunities to work in different research areas such as; Natural Product Chemistry, Material Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Physical & Analytical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Laboratories are equipped with the most modern and automated technology. A wide range of available instruments are:
- NMR

Department of Chemistry offers MS and PhD degree programs in various research areas. The MS and PhD students are striving for creating and completing an independent, original research in the chemical sciences. This experience plays a pivotal role towards strengthening the foundation for their future careers in increasingly diverse scientific enterprise.
In order to compete in the international world, the department is establishing effective international collaborations with foreign universities, especially with German, UK, Malaysian, Chinese universities, etc. This department has several research collaborations with international universities and institutions and several MoU’s in this regard have been signed. The faculty and students are getting benefit from these MoU’s by conducting collaborative research to enhance their knowledge and research expertise in the world ranking universities.
