An Awareness Session was conducted at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus on the role and functions of the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO). Advisor to FTO Regional Secretariat Abbottabad, Muhammad Majid Qureshi visited COMSATS University Abbottabad Campus, on August 26, 2022. Awareness sessions with the faculty and administrative staff regarding the role, significance, and impact of FTO remained progressive and interactive.

Speaking at the Session Advisor to FTO Regional Secretariat Abbottabad, Muhammad Majid Qureshi said that in 1983, the office of Wafaqi Mohtasib (Ombudsman)’s Secretariat was created to check maladministration in federal departments. Later on, to alleviate taxpayers’ problems and difficulties and to enhance the ease of doing business, the institution of Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) was established in the year 2000 to address taxpayers’ grievances promptly and without any hassle, an effective redressal system is vital. Since its inception, this FTO has provided relief to thousands of aggrieved taxpayers and has played a significant role to address the prevalent maladministration in the taxation system.  

The audience was enlightened regarding the role of FTO in providing justice to taxpayers. The complaints being registered against the taxation department are being disposed of within 48 days, as prompt redressal of complaints is the basic right of the taxpayers and the basic motive of FTO.
