Trees Planted at Jabrian, Shimla Hill
A ceremony was held at the Jabrian near Shimla Hill to plant trees as part of the Greener Pakistan Initiative (10 Billion Tree Tsunami). The COMSATS University Islamabad Abbottabad Campus and forestry department, by inviting schools to hold a tree plantation across Jabrian Abbottabad. The ceremony was attended by Director COMSATS Prof Dr. Imtiaz Ali khan, faculty of environmental sciences, Administrative Officials and a large number of national and international students. Under this campaign, around 25 schools joined the movement and conducted a tree plantation drive on 3rd August at sharp 9:30 AM. Dignitaries from 10 different government institutes like WASSA, Education department, senior officials like school heads and teachers joined the various schools and planted tree saplings with children. Children also pledged that they would take care of the saplings for next one year and share the growth of their plants with us. The objective of the campaign is to support environment and climate literacy, by planting tree saplings and building awareness about clean energy. Addressing a ceremony in Abbottabad, the Director COMSATS invited as a chief guest and he began his address by thanking all those who had participated in today’s campaign. He stated that Pakistan was among the top ten countries most affected by climate change. If we keep continuing on this path, then some of the areas will effected greatly and soon become a desert. He urges that it is our responsibility to make the country green for future generations. He also said this is just the start, this will continue in future. Different participants also shared their experience and views to clean and protect environment.
