Overview

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that explores the relationships between natural and human systems and the impact of human activities on the environment. This field draws on knowledge and methods from a range of disciplines, including ecology, biology, chemistry, physics, geology, and social sciences. Environmental science seeks to understand the complex interactions between living and non-living elements of the environment and how these interactions are affected by human activities such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and resource depletion. It aims to provide solutions for sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the environment. Environmental chemistry, environmental biology, ecology, atmospheric science, geology, and environmental policy and management are among the major areas in environmental sciences. In addition, energy and resource management, environmental health, and sustainable development are also important fields in environmental sciences. In recent decades, due to growing concerns about climate change, pollution, and the degradation of natural resources, environmental science has become an increasingly important area of research. Environmental scientists use scientific principles and methods to investigate and develop strategies for mitigating the negative impacts of human activities on the environment. Therefore, this field is crucial for understanding the impact of human activities on the environment and to developing effective strategies for conserving, managing, and protecting natural resources and their sustainability for present and future generations.

Message by the HoD

Environment warrants concerted and consistent attention to maintain its sanctity to sustain life on earth. In the recent past we have witnessed high economic growth and a great boost in industrial production, but all at the cost of environmental integrity. Overexploitation of natural resources and ruthless degradation of the environment has threatened the ecological systems that are essential for the survival of all forms of life. To bring a balance between human development and environmental protection, scientific study of environment-related issues and exploring remedial techniques is needed.
